Bergenstages Presents Radium Girls at the Ciccone Theatre

Ciccone Theatre
March 31, April 1, 6, 7 & 8, 2023

In 1926, radium was a miracle cure, Madame Curie an international celebrity, and luminous watches the latest rage—until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease. Inspired by a true story, Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she fights for her day in court. Her chief adversary is her former employer, Arthur Roeder, an idealistic man who cannot bring himself to believe that the same element that shrinks tumors could have anything to do with the terrifying rash of illnesses among his employees. As the case goes on, however, Grace finds herself battling not just with the U.S. Radium Corporation, but with her own family and friends, who fear that her campaign for justice will backfire.

The Seas Are Rising: an Earth Week Concert Experience

The Seas Are Rising is a concert experience calling attention to the urgency of the climate crisis, with the goal of spreading awareness through entertaining music, lyrics, visuals, and discussion on the need for immediate action to fend off a worst case scenario for the planet.  Songs about people around the world already facing consequences of climate change, from floods to droughts, from fires to intensified hurricanes, from the Americas to Europe, Asia, and Africa tell the story that the time for climate action is NOW, combined with a message of hope that we can come together and demand action from our leaders.

The Seas Are Rising is written by BCC music professor Dan Sheehan, and is performed by a band featuring various faculty and area musicians playing a variety of instruments from Western and non-Western traditions.

TOUGH GUYS presents two men facing their failure to achieve the lives about which they've always dreamed. the DEPARTURE OF BRIAN O'CALLAHAN finds a lost soul on the brink of suicide and in pursuit of understanding from the one person who may be able to save him. In MAKIN' SENSE OF NOTHIN', two construction workers accidentally discover a horrible truth at a coworker's funeral. In the title play, POOR FELLAS, two recently jilted buddies learn a stunning fact of life when they come face to face with utter abandonment. Using minimal sets and a cast that can double and triple throughout, the comic pieces come to hilarious and unexpected crises and finish on somber, thoughtful notes.
